344 members from each EU member state, according to the population size. Members of the ESC are divided into three equal groups, representing employers, employees (unions) and “various interests” (such as transportation or consumer groups). Members are appointed by the Council following nominations from each countries governments. President:  Henri Malosse, 2013-2015, France.


Pre-legislative consultative role to the European Commission, European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, ensuring that “European policies and legislation tie in with economic, social and civic circumstances on the ground”.


Nine times a year.
