A short circuit disabled the third reactor of the Zaporizhya nuclear power plant in Ukraine on Friday, November 28. Energy Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn said there was no danger to public safety and that repairs would be completed by December 5. No unusual radioactivity has been detected by Wednesday, December 3, according to the French public nuclear safety institute IRSN. The plant has six reactors with a total capacity of 6,000 megawatts. Zaporizhya is located in government-controlled territory, 125 miles away from the pro-Russian rebel stronghold of Donetsk.
