According to Pollwatch, Socialists and Christian Conservatives are close in the race for the Parliament election in May. An alliance between Christian Democrats, Liberals, and Conservatives would give Jean-Claude Juncker (Luxembourg) ca. 43% support for becoming EU Commission President. Assuming Greens and Communists support the Social Democrats, Martin Schulz (Germany) would receive 41%. Should the Parliament not elect its nominee, the EU Council will nominate a candidate, which the Parliament may approve or reject.
